Imagine walking into your high school art classroom one day and finding a genuine painting by the Italian Renaissance painter Tiziano Vecelli, known as Titian (born ca. 1489 – died 1576). That’s what happened in November of 2023 at the Belen Jesuit Preparator School in Miami, Florida. The whole exhibition of thirty works consisted of paintings by Rubens, Tintoretto, and others, including the painting recently attributed to Titian. They came from the collection of a fourth generation art dealer from Florence, Italy, now residing in Miami.
Apparently, the artist experimented with several poses on the same canvas, as revealed by X-ray analysis.
Saint Sebastian was a 3rd century Christian saint and martyr. According to traditional belief, he came to a gory end, one way or another. He was tied to a tree and shot with arrows. But according to one version, he didn’t die. He survived and tried to call the Roman emperor Diocletian to repentance for his sin, and as a result he was clubbed to death.
Original paintings by Titian have sold for over $20,000,000 in recent years. If you have any artworks that you like to have valued, give us a chance by clicking on the link. We’d love to help!
